Potable Water Treatment
Activated Charcoal is having an excellent adsorption ability, and hence it is the most preferred material for potable/industrial/wastewater treatment.
The Activated Charcoal adsorbs the synthetic organic matters, chemicals, particulate matters, bacteria, removes odors that may be due to chemical treatment or else due to some other reasons. The surface area of 1gm of Activated Charcoal is equal to 3000 square meters.
The Charcoal filters remove about 81 elements and remove herbicides, pesticides. The Activated Charcoal Filters remove the odor of Chlorine and improve the aesthetic quality of potable water. Carbon Block filters remove many pollutants, lead, and microbiological contaminants including waterborne pathogens from the drinking water.
Wastewater Treatment
The Activated Charcoal is predominantly used in Wastewater treatment to adsorb the pollutants present in the Municipal/Industrial wastewater. These wastewaters contain different kinds of Pollutants which may be, Dissolved, Undissolved, Degradable organic substances, Plant nutrients, Heavy Metals, salts.
The purpose of the wastewater/sewage water treatment is to remove the above pollutants and restore the water quality before discharging them into the open land/water bodies. The wastewater treatment process involves some pre-cleaning activities like Flocculation/sedimentation, biological treatment. The treatment with Activated Charcoal shall be carried out at the last phase of the treatment especially to remove micropollutants.
Petroleum Refineries
The recovery of chemicals used in refineries is well accomplished by Activated Charcoal. It is used in many ways in the Refinery and the availability of good quality Activated Charcoal is made it possible to recover a good amount of chemicals used in the process.
They are used to purify the amine solutions in natural gas scrubbing. The traces of Mercury present in the natural gas removed by using the Activated Charcoal.
The Activated Charcoal is used in the treatment of Process water, steam condensate water to remove oil and heavy hydrocarbons. The Heavy Ploy-Nuclear Aromatic (HPNA) which may foul processing equipment is removed by using the Activated Charcoal.
Gold Recovery
Widely the Cyanidation is the primary method used for gold beneficiation. It is a metallurgical process of separating gold from the Cyanide leaching agents.
The Activated Charcoal which has an excellent surface area is used to recover the gold from the cyanide solution.
It adsorbs the solid gold particles and the use of Activated Charcoal has become the industry standard for the gold recovery in Carbon-in-Leach (CIL), Carbon-in-Pulp (CIP), and Carbon-in- Column operations.
Cosmetic and Medical
Activated Charcoal is orally taken to treat poisonings. It is also used for intestinal gas, high cholesterol, hangovers, upset stomach, and bile flow problems (cholestasis) during pregnancy.
Activated Charcoal is an essential ingredient in many cosmetic products. It is added in addition to the other regular ingredients,
Activated Charcoal soaps are good at removing the dead skin cells, deep cleansing the body, and removing harmful bacteria and microbes that cause body odour, Activated Charcoal tooth powder provides complete oral cleaning and whitening of teeth.
Tobacco Industries
Smoking is injurious to health and many people try to quit it but in vain. Hence, efforts are being made to reduce the bad effects of smoking. The Activated Charcoal comes as a very useful product to bring down the ill effects of smoking.
The addition of charcoal in cigarette filters may be an effective means of reducing many toxicants from tobacco smoke.
The free radicals are highly reactive and are present very abundant in cigarette smoke, and the presence of Activated Charcoal filter tips reduce free radical delivery when compared with radical yields from commercially available cigarettes.
